Trees Hand Embroidered Cushion
Trees Hand Embroidered Cushion
This intricately embroidered cushion is handmade for Stitch by Stitch in Gujarat from handwoven organic, rain-fed kala cotton in a small check pattern. Embellished by hand by local craftswomen using traditional Kutchi embroidery stitches and motifs, blown up in scale and reinterpreted for a modern look, depicting abstract trees. The neutral base fabric combined with the embroidery in black thread means this piece will fit equally well within a contemporary, minimalist interior scheme or a more traditional room.
Kala cotton is a sustainable variety of cotton, also known as an Old World cotton, which is indigenous to the dry Kutch region of India. Kala cotton is grown here without additional irrigation other than rainfall, and without the need for pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Our kala cotton fabrics are handwoven and dyed using natural plant dyes by local craftspeople in this region, supported by a social business organisation encouraging sustainable cotton textile production, and the preservation of agricultural and artisan livelihoods in Kutch.
Part of the Rabari collection of embroidered cushions, celebrating traditional craftsmanship from Kutch.
Orders of two or more cushions come supplied with a handmade cotton drawstring bag, which makes a nice gift.
