Handmade for Stitch by Stitch in Gujarat from handwoven, organic, sustainable kala cotton fabric in a small check pattern. Embroidered by hand by skilled local women artisans using an array of traditional embroidery stitches and motifs from the Kutch region, an area rich in textile history and extraordinary craft skills. These stitches are oversized in scale and have been reinterpreted in a modern design depicting birds and an abstract tree. The neutral, crisp cotton and monochrome embroidery ensures this piece will fit equally well within a contemporary decorating scheme, or a more traditional style of room.

Kala cotton is probably the most water and energy-efficient cotton species in the world as it is purely rain-fed, and grows organically, in total harmony with the local ecology of the arid Kutch region. The hand spun cotton yarn is dyed locally using natural plant dyes. Small variations and “imperfections” in the weave are all part of the charm of this unique, handmade product.

Orders for two or more cushions come packaged in a handmade cotton drawstring bag, which can be reused for clothes storage, or as a laundry bag!
