An Artisan Home steeped in Global Heritage

London interior designer Melissa Bolivar, of House of Sui Sui, recently called upon local artisanal brands, craftspeople and antique dealers to bring global pieces, textures and colours to her design for the interiors of a show home - Artisan Home. The challenge was to bring warmth and an personality into this classically British space while leaving the original features of the Victorian property untouched. Stitch by Stitch was approached to supply various textile pieces for the project, highlighting our global, artisanal product range.

Each object in the home was chosen for its unique story and craftsmanship and carefully layered to bring the space alive. An antique hand-embroidered Tibetan Dragon wall hanging greets you as you enter the living space. Embroidered in silk, the oversized piece uses classic Chinese craftsmanship to create a striking feature wall. This hangs harmoniously above a contemporary velvet sofa by DI Designs and a Stitch by Stitch handmade wool Radhi-covered pouffe

The master bedroom offers a tranquil and organic space. A basic headboard was elevated in a clever hack by Melissa, by dressing it in a monochrome wool throw by Stitch by Stitch. Desi handwoven wool and Block + Stitch embroidered organic cotton cushions add to the comfortable, handcrafted feel of the room.   Above the bed are three vintage shell drawings salvaged from an 1800’s book.  “It’s the vintage touches that create layers to a space and add history even when a space is new” says Melissa.  The bedside table is by DI Design, accessorised with small vases made from salvaged woods by woodworkers Ash & Plumb.

Melissa discovered several gems at nearby Lillie Road Antiques - large-scale 1900 French cast iron lamps and a wrought iron martini table originating from mid-century Spain from Streett Marburg. The space features an eclectic mix of pieces from the different continents and different moments in time creating a global and layered feel.
