Hand rolled terracotta platters with naturally dyed British leather handles
Graham and I first discovered Brighton ceramicist Silvia K at Clerkenwell Design Week in London a few years ago, and immediately fell in love with her fresh, painterly terracotta platters with leather handles.
I have one of her platters in a zingy yellow and blue glaze, but was delighted to spot Silvia's new collection on her Instagram feed, featuring new grey, charcoal and white tin glazes. This palette really resonates with us and these pieces would look wonderful in a home with our neutral textiles!

Silvia was born in Slovakia, a country with a rich craft heritage, and as a result, she has always had a passion and respect for traditional crafts. Her work is influenced by old artefacts, and her inspiration is diverse, from Spanish drug jars to Iraqi dinner plates. Her ceramics are always a modern interpretation of old pieces.
All pieces are made by hand in her favourite terracotta clay which is fired to mid temperature to impart a rich red-brown colour. "The iron in the clay finds its way through the grey-blue tin glaze and results in uniquely varying waves of speckles around the edges of the ware." she explains.
