Launching our New Handmade Patchwork Cushions and Quilts

Fish Mashru cushion

We're very pleased to be launching our new patchwork cushion and quilt collection.  Hand-made for us by a master quilt maker in Gujarat, it takes a month just to do the kanthe stitching on each quilt!

Chequered Diamonds "Pièce Unique" mashru quilt 

Stitch by Stitch's Graham sourced and selected the range of vintage mashru (or permitted cloth) fabrics whilst on his last research trip to India.  Mashru fabrics were traditionally worn by Muslim men who were not permitted to wear silk next to the skin.  Mashru is woven with a silk warp and cotton weft.  The cotton threads lie next to the skin, and the silk warp threads show on the face of the fabric, allowing the opulence of silk to be worn.  As you can see from the Fish cushion above, mashru fabric was often woven with ikat (or tie-dyed) silk threads, creating beautiful, tiny patterns. 

Khamir organic cotton patchwork cushion 

Our mashru quilts and cushions are "pièce unique" or one-of-a-kind, items.  Each one is unique and cannot be replicated.

On the other hand, our Khamir quilt and cushions, made with organic kala cotton fabrics, can be repeated.  We have just one of the Khamir quilt and two Khamir cushion designs in stock, but they can be made to order.  Delivery is 6-8 weeks.
